Alligator Snapping Turtles (Macrochelys temminckii) hatchlings
As with all other turtles, Alligator Snappers hatch from eggs. Females lay between 10 - 50 eggs, which may take up to 140 days to hatch. As with most turtle species, this species undergoes temperature dependent sex determination while in the egg… higher ambient temperatures produce girls, and lower temps produce boys.
Alligator snappers are amazing.
