Caddis fly larvae are known to incorporate bits of whatever they can find into their cocoons, be it fish bone or bits of leaves. Hubert Duprat gave them gold, turquoise, gems and pearls.
Hmm…I’m not totally sure how I feel about this. If the caddis flies develop normally after they’re taken out of their habitat, I guess I’m all right with it. The cases are definitely cool, but they can already look pretty neat with just tiny creek pebbles of different colors and shapes.
